Take Over Legacy Systems. Understand Them. Make Them Future-Ready.
When your systems still run — but hold your business back.
When legacy systems are business-critical, “it still works” is no longer enough. VIALUTIONS takes over, analyses and evolves existing systems — in a controlled, pragmatic way, without putting ongoing operations at risk.
The real legacy problem is rarely the system itself.
Legacy becomes a problem when change takes too long, risks become too high, or processes only work through workarounds.
Production Systems
No one wants to touch them because changes appear too risky.
Knowledge
Critical knowledge sits with individual people — not in the system.
Excel & Workarounds
Business processes depend on complex Excel structures.
The result: your business teams work around the systems instead of with them. This is exactly where we step in.
We Take Responsibility for Your Existing Systems.
VIALUTIONS specialises in taking over, evolving and stabilising legacy systems during live operations.
We step in where others stop.

Understand Before We Change.
Many companies face the same challenge: no one knows exactly how the system really works anymore. That is why we do not begin with development — we begin with understanding.
The goal: transparency instead of a black box. Without understanding, every modernisation becomes a risk.
Fast, Tangible Results with AI-Based Prototypes.
We do not believe in months of concept work. Instead, we use rapid AI-assisted PoCs and MVPs.
The result: you see the direction early and make better decisions.
Excel Was Never Designed as a Platform.
In many companies, Excel solutions have grown over the years and are now business-critical. The problem is not Excel. The problem is scalability.
This creates scalable, stable processes — without disrupting day-to-day operations.
Typical Symptoms
How We Help
Reengineering Instead of an Expensive Rebuild.
Not every legacy system needs to be replaced. Often, the better path is to modernise existing applications step by step.
Step-by-Step Modernisation
Existing applications are modernised selectively instead of being replaced blindly.
Modularisation
Monoliths are gradually decoupled and made easier to maintain.
API-Enabled Interfaces
Existing systems become easier to integrate and connect.
Modern System Landscapes
User interfaces, architecture, data structures and operations are improved in a targeted way.
The benefit: lower risk, faster results, continued use of existing business logic and fewer operational disruptions.
Integration Instead of Isolated Solutions.

FAQ – Legacy System Takeover & Further Development
Frequently asked questions about taking over, stabilising and modernising existing legacy systems.
What does VIALUTIONS actually mean by a “legacy system”?
For us, a legacy system is not necessarily an old system — it is any system where changes take too long, seem too risky or only work through workarounds. This can be custom software that has grown over many years, a business-critical Excel setup or an application without up-to-date documentation. What matters is not the age of the system, but whether it still supports your business or has already started to slow it down.
Do I have to replace my legacy system immediately, or is it enough to take over ongoing operations?
Not every legacy system has to be replaced. In many cases, the better first step is to take over and stabilise ongoing operations — without big-bang risk. Only on that stable foundation do we decide together whether gradual modernisation, targeted reengineering of individual modules or, in exceptional cases, a new development project makes sense.
How does VIALUTIONS proceed when there is no documentation or only incomplete documentation?
This is exactly our core use case, not an exclusion criterion. We use AI-supported analysis tools to automatically explore codebases, dependencies and data flows, making business logic visible that may no longer be documented anywhere. The goal is transparency instead of a black box — before we change even a single line of code.
What is the difference between reengineering and a complete rebuild?
Reengineering means modernising existing applications in a targeted way instead of replacing them blindly: monoliths are decoupled step by step, interfaces are made API-capable and individual components are improved — while operations continue. A greenfield rebuild, by contrast, is often more expensive, slower and riskier because existing business logic is reinvented instead of reused. We recommend reengineering whenever the functional substance of the existing system is still sound.
How long does it take to take over an existing system?
That mainly depends on two factors: available know-how, meaning whether there are still people who know the system, and how up to date the documentation is. With AI-supported analysis, onboarding times can be reduced significantly today. In any case, ongoing operations remain stable throughout the takeover — without downtime and without unclear responsibilities.
How does VIALUTIONS ensure that ongoing operations are not put at risk during the takeover?
We work in a controlled and gradual way rather than through risky big-bang projects: parallel operation, step-by-step handover of critical processes and a stabilisation phase before any major change. This gives you room for well-considered decisions instead of having to act under time pressure.
Roughly how much does it cost to take over or modernise a legacy system?
There is no general answer, as it depends heavily on the scope of the system. For an initial, low-risk entry point, we therefore offer paid short projects with a clearly defined deliverable — for example an AI-supported legacy code analysis with a risk report or a proof of concept for AI reengineering of a single module. This gives you a reliable basis before deciding on a larger project.
AI Agents & Legacy
Legacy Systems and the Model Context Protocol
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables AI agents to access data, systems and tools in a structured way — instead of building a separate, isolated interface for every application.
What does the Model Context Protocol (MCP) have to do with my legacy system?
At its core, MCP is a standardised bridge between AI agents and existing systems: an AI agent uses an MCP server to query specific data, statuses or functions of a system instead of collecting information manually. For legacy systems, this means that before an AI agent can meaningfully “talk” to an evolved application, the system needs a clean, documented interface to the outside. This is exactly the foundation we create with our reengineering approach — for example through API-capable interfaces for previously isolated systems — so that your legacy system can later connect to MCP-based AI agents.
Can old, evolved systems be connected to modern AI agents via MCP?
In principle, yes — provided the underlying system is understood and can be accessed through defined interfaces. MCP itself does not replace reverse engineering: an AI agent can only interact with your legacy system as well as its data flows, business logic and interfaces have previously been understood and documented. That is why we generally start with understanding rather than integration: only once the structure and dependencies of a system have been made visible through AI-supported analysis can an MCP-capable connection be implemented in a meaningful way and without risk to ongoing operations.
